Hornby High Experience So Far

Term 4 week 2 On Tuesday was when I began to attend Hornby High School as a student.
As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the people I had already knew before I started. Soon after that the bell rang and my friend took me to my class ( 7 mt ) . I then meet my teacher Mr.Mitchell , it wasn´t long till i had settled in with the rest of class , surprisingly it was easier than I imagined because i knew 6 kids that were in 7 mt.

As the weeks went by I noticed a lot of different things about Hornby High Compared to my old school. The pros on going to Hornby High is that they are open to a lot more experiences such as Camp where the yr 8 go on camp. They go somewhere everyday for a week. A few of the things they do on camp are water activities , they go to a Marae for a powhiri , and mountain climbing . Those are not the only things there are more however im sure of the rest. They also encourange us to join in sports , athletics and fitness. Every Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday we do fitness  in mornings as the first thing to start of the day. With sports every week we compete against several other teams from different schools we then do a big tournament with schools all around Canterbury called ¨ Koru Games¨ . Then there´s athletics The whole school participates in athletics at the beginning of the year as a whole school event , then at the end of the year the yr 7 & 8 children have to do it again as a competitive event to get into the Canterbury team. Yr 7 also get a chance to go surfing!

For the older students such as the leavers they are given opportunities to get a good job or to get scholarships that get them to where they need and want to be. They also get the big roles around our schools such as head girl & boy , house leaders  and prefects to held by leading around Hornby High.

Attitude Talk Programme

Intro

Earlier Today we were visited by Emma & Rory  , who are apart of the "Attitude Talks".
There job is to talk to us about the topics such as health , bulling , cat-fishing , family issues , friendships , relationships technology and others , however today we talked about the dangers of the internet and social media. However our topic was Technology.

Topics Spoken about

They both started on true stories , like the time when Emma had though she was messeging
 her crush then found she was cat-fished by a boy at her school named Elijah , Emma was devastated . Rory spoke about how his friend in 8th grade made a fake account and wrote mean comments on a girls post which really made her sad , she ended up deleting photos because if the mean comments that were posted. It was only until next year he finally admitted to it , which means he kept that secret for over 10 years.

What you think happens 

You probably think that no one will see the bad thing you do on social media by deleting the post , messege or comment . Well you wrong , settle in because your mind is going to be blown when you find out what a "Digital Footprint".

Digital Footprint
Emma also stated facts about a "Digital Footprint ". Do you know what a Digital Footprint is ? , If not allow me to explain. In the world there are massive warehouses that  keep everything you have done on any social media. This could be snapchat , Instagram ,Facebook , messenger , trademe , Tiktok any all other social networks. Basically they have recorded everything you do on social media (not literally recording you). They have kept track of everything u have been tagged in , liked , commented , amount of times u have called , facetimed , all the messeges u have received  and sent EVERYTHING ! So becareful with everything you do on social network.

Community Sport

For Passion Projects I decided to do Community Sport ,
So as you know Sport is my passion but what about my Project?

Tahnesha , Aroha Milan and I are doing a sports tournament help with the yr 4 , 5 & 6 students from Hornby Primary School. They will be rotating around with 3 different sports with 2 other groups , such as Touch Netball and Soccer. We are in charge of the Netball Section. What we have planned is to show the students a quick video of how to play we then are going to get the the students into teams and positions , then the fun part we get to ref the game.

So far we have  selected 3 people who wrote a speech , they are  going  to Hornby Primary's  Principal to convince him why we wont to do this with his students. Hopefully he accepts our offer. If so our next step is to create a presentation and work out the schedule with the students and what works best with them and their teachers.
